Laser hair removal is an effective way to remove unwanted facial and body hair due to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). You can see results in just a few treatments!

If you suffer from PCOS and are tired of those unsightly ingrown hairs and dark spots, find out how laser hair removal can safely and effectively treat unwanted body hair.

What is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)?

PCOS is a medical condition that affects women and causes irregular menstrual periods due to a dysfunction of monthly ovulation and elevated levels of androgen’s (male hormones like testosterone). Approximately 5 to 10 percent of women are affected by PCOS and the elevated androgen levels lead to excessive facial and body hair growth (hirsutism), acne, and/or male-pattern scalp hair thinning.
These hormonal imbalances can lead to fertility issues, obesity, increased risk of diabetes and obstructive sleep apnea.

How is PCOS diagnosed?

While there is no single diagnostic test for diagnosing polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), PCOS may be diagnosed based upon your symptoms, blood tests, and a physical examination.
A woman must have two out of three of the following to be diagnosed with PCOS:

Irregular menstrual periods caused by anovulation (lack of ovulation) or irregular ovulation.
Evidence of elevated androgen levels. The evidence can be based upon signs (excess hair growth, acne, or male-pattern balding) or blood tests (high androgen levels).
Polycystic ovaries on pelvic ultrasound.

How is PCOS treated?

While there is no cure for PCOS, it can be treated with:

Oral contraceptives (birth control pills)
Hormonal treatments (Progestin)
Antiandrogen medications (spironolactone)
Weight loss
Metformin (for insulin regulation and weight loss)
Laser therapy (for excessive hair growth due to hirsutism)

How can Comprehensive Laser help?

One of the most troublesome side effects for most women who suffer from PCOS is hirsutism. Hirsutism refers to the growth of coarse, dark hair in areas where women typically grow fine hair or no hair at all: upper lip and on the chin, chest, abdomen, and back. This excess hair growth is caused by an increased level of male hormones (androgens) as is seen in women who suffer from PCOS.

At Comprehensive Laser, we use laser technology to target these rapidly growing hair follicles to permanently reduce the appearance of facial and body hair due to hirsutism. Treatments can take as little as 5 minutes!

Schedule a consultation today to be evaluated by a medical provider to see if you are a candidate for laser hair removal.
